Van Staal's new, over-sized anti-reverse clutch proved to be so strong in lab tests that its own engineers cheering in amazement. This is by far the strongest clutch bearing ever used in a spinning reel to date. Like every Van Staal spin reel produces, these new bail reels are machined out of aircraft grade 6061-T6511 aluminum, and use stainless steel gears, titanium-nitride center shafts. Machined aluminum and brass are all used to construct the highest-performing, most durable saltwater reels on the planet. Also, just like every Van Staal spin reel, these are sealed water tight to keep sand, surf and corrosion out.
