for me, a lot depends upon several conditions such as, where i am fishing, the forage bait around, winds, and surf/wave heights. through the years i have not gone wrong throwing a plastic atom40. this lure has caught more quality stripers for me than all the other metal lips i have thrown. the newer atom40s are junk.

a close second would have to be a beachmaster danny. however, in the last 1+ years the tattoo diving swimmer has become my go-to lure in the surf. this is especially true when the surf is churned up, larger swells, and larger bait is around. this lure digs hard and when the surf is large, you can end that eye down and then you almos have to pull the lure out of that surf!

with beachmaster dannys so hard to come around, i have had to try and find an alternative to this type of lure and it is now tattoo's larger swimmer.

tattoo's tackle choices of metal lips is by far the best in the saltwater scene, especially for surf casters. they are widely available and the quality is top of the line. you will not be disappointed.
