The Westport R. heats up in mid to late May and so does the fishing.
Good shore spots include the end of the State part at the mouth of the river
as well as Gooseberry Is. You're also not far from the Sakonnet R. Other
reports on this forum indicate that Narragansett Bay and tthe Sakonnet will be looking good by then.
Most fishing done inside in the Westport R. is by boat, kayak or canoe to access the channels and flats.
