While they have been inconsistent, there's a lot of albies around RI now. Reports have come in from almost everywhere including fairly far North into Narragansett Bay. Anglers are catching a lot of fish on the days the fish are on the surface. Topwater plugs were the best bet on Saturday, metal was ignored. Some of the albies have been fairly large for around here, approaching 10 pounds. Lots of fun on fly rods or light tackle.
The Narragansett Bay albies seems to be a bit of a trend the last few years, while I almost always see or hear of a few around Prudence Island the numbers that have roamed that far or further into the Bay the past few years are much higher.
Water temps off Newport have been holding strong off of Newport at 66 degrees, but bait still seems to be a bit rare. It wouldn't surprise me if the bulk of the albies ran into the Bay to get to the bunker there.
