I grew up in Perth Amboy - ( on the more chemically bound water ) but later moved to Middletown - so i did alot of my fishing in and around the Hook

Had a buddy that had the job of " Bay Keeper " so i would go out with him on patrol - and fish

When we moved up here - i did stint with a guy that was an avid freshwater fisherman -and didnt know how to repay him for the favor- so i built him a rod - and built one for myself.

My son and i would go out in our inflatable - off the rocks at NEB and fish - he would be spin casting -and catching something every time - and me just failing away

I still remember the first time that something " pulled back" - had no idea what was going on- it pulled - i pulled - it pulled some more - trying to " trout set a hook" I learned alot in those days

Broke that rod one day - so my wife bought me one from the SWE - and that started a 13 year addiction. And it is an addiction!

Must admit that the shop and the folks that run it now are far better than some of the early ones - with the exception of Steve Cook - who my wife adored - and could literally sell ice to the eskimo's at a premium. Though he never over sold me - always steered me to the right stuff - and could spin fishing yarn like no one i have ever met.

While the fishing season is a little shorter up here - the variety seems better - and a far greater ability to fish different locations - all in close proximity- makes it all the better
