I used to use mono in heavy current around rocks because it seemed more forgiving. But after losing some good fish and being spoiled by the sensitivity and hooksetting ability of braid I now use 50-65lb power-pro in those situations. Otherwise it’s 14-30 lb fireline with 20lb being my personal favorite. OK, OK. I know what you’re going to say, he’s cheating with 65lb. The reason I use it is because of the diameter which really helps around rocks and it is primarily used as my Breachway rig. All I know is whoever made the 50lb tackle limit for the IGFA world record stripers never tried to pull a 30lb+ fish through the rocks at Quonny. I still lose plenty of big fish using the heavy stuff anyway. |
