Hey Delray! That shimano should be good replacement for the Phlueger. I've used "freshwater" rods before in the salt for light tackle applications (which sounds like what you're doing). The freshwater thing is just a label put on by the manufacturer for intended use. The rod rating is what realy tells you what it's capable of. Your's is rated for a 1/4 to 3/4 oz, which in my experience is enough for light tackle salt use.
The only thing that may be an issue, is that the guide feet may slightly rust prematurely because the rod was never intended for saltwater use. Other than for that cosmetic reason, the rod is just about perfect.
If you don't go w/ the shimano you may try and see if you can find an Ugly Stick Inter-Coastal. Fairly cheap rod, less than $100, they come in the size your looking for, and are very good rods for that price range. Highly recomend them. They have cork handles and blue wraps NOT the red and yellow of a tradtional ugly.
