Maybe it was another family member falling victim to cancer, Hab's passing, or just turning 30 (I might have actually put a pound or 2 on this winter for the first time ever that wasn't muscle ) or everything combined but I'd have to admit I've been re-evaluating everything a bit and not just my fishing habits.

Everything in moderation I guess. Although I do enjoy pushing the envelope a bit in the ways I fish and the amount I fish. I don't know if that will ever fully go away. I honestly enjoy the burn that comes from fishing for 12 hours straight or more at this point in my life and hopefully I won't look back and wish I'd spent that time doing something else.

Surfcasting IS somewhat unique in my eyes, often when fishing with someone in the surf it's just not as social as say fishing in a boat. You can go hours without exchanging a word just due to the distance between you. And of course many of us do often fish alone, myself included.

Good post Bill. It's good to stop and take stock of what's important every once in a while.
