no claim of knowing at all what I'm doing but I've been very happy with the way that these perform, on Kickin's observation I've gone back to a heavy guage stainless w/ pins( the swivel idea was great for protos but they get beaten up very fast)...let it set and tug and it will dart side to side, short tugs get side to side slashes, a lot of convincing action with little effort and the fish have been crushing the squid imitation... I've only thrown the yellow to test, rides a little higher in the water that the squid, I'm making a fatter heavier version now that will end up around 3 ounces for chuckin'...funny you mentioned a needle because I'm making a sinking version with the line attachment up on the top to see how that reacts...
