The rubbermaid dishwashing bin with weed wacker cord glued to the bottom in the shape of horshoes is a very cheap solution. I think it's a Lefty Krey trick. Cut out two holes for the belt. You shouldn't be fishing a line long enough to tangle in the rocks if you're flyfishing the surf anyway . The stripping basket tends to be more of a handicap then a benefit, but I'm a novice when it coes to flyfishing anyway. There are some tricks to safely hold loops of line in your hand without it tangling too. Seen it done but I can't do it.

GUESS Ill BLOW this out of the water, have hade them befor, meny years ago still have 'em. nice MESH ones. use to use, great baskets. BUT for a good number of years have NOT. you can see me in the SURF on ROCKS in a BOAT on the BEACH. just a PAIN in the ARSSSSSS. SORRY guys. thats me. as for line deteration, Ill be long gone befor it does.

I also have the LL Bean model. Seams to work just fine. Have not drilled any drainage holes in it yet - sounds like it might be a good idea though. What do you think?
