| Guys thanks again for a great night and I hope to see everyone again next week or the week after. I'll let you know soon about next week but I'm not 100% sure just yet. I've uploaded some images Pete took during the class. Thanks. .![]() ![]() |

| Well after some thought and hard pushing from the gents who are tying we will be having the class tomorrow even with the Newport Meeting this month. In the future I might take this week off as I'm sensing some bitterness from some people so lets so what happens over time but YES we are having tying tomorrow night for sure! I also want to mention that we will have a few extra people tomorrow so the class might balance out or be a bit larger than other weeks or smaller with the meeting the same night but either way please try to get there for as close to 6 PM as possible. I also have some other great news. We will have our first visit from a good friend and well known local guide who works out of the store during the fishing season and is a fantastic angler as well as great fly tier, Capt. Eric Taylor will join us to demonstrate his version of a Sili-Skin/E-Z Body variation which looks awesome and is sure to be great fun to tie and I'm looking forward to starting to learn some new stuff myself so it should be great. Looking forward to it and I also want to mention the help and support from all of you guys before and after the classes is huge. Thank You from all of the SWE guys! Looking forward to having everyone and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me via email or phone. ![]() Sili Skin Minnow Hook: Gamakatsu SC 15 or equivalent in 1/0 -2/0 Thread: Clear Mono or White Thread anything will be fine Body: Large Silver E-Z Body or Minnow Maker covered with Thick Pearl Sili Skin Flash: Pearl Wing N Flash or equal Tail: Farrar Blend in White or bucktail in white or olive or any synthetic in this color Tools: Olive Sharpie Markers or any permanent marking pens, Softex or Crafty Glue for covering Sili Skin after application Eye: Silver Prismatic Tape Eyes ![]() “The Answer” AKA Rabbit Candy Hook: Gamakatsu SC15 1/0 Thread: Ultra Fine Clear Mono Topping: Pearl Angel Hair or Wing N Flash Tail: White Rabbit Strip (tied in upside down) Flash: Pearlescent Mirage Flashabou Tools: 5 Minute Epoxy Eyes: 2mm Prismatic Eyes Silver or Pearl anything is fine This small pattern is really easy to tie and takes all of a few minutes to get the actual fly completed it’s the Epoxy that’ll kill ya. First tie in your clear mono thread and leave toward the rear of the hook. Now tie in a small strip of white rabbit about ½” length or as desired hair down. It’s very important that you tie this strip in hide up or hair down. This I feel is what gives the fly action and makes it effective. Now tie in about 2-3 strands of Mirage Flashabou in any color and leave about 1/4” longer than the rabbit strip off the back. Now advance your thread forward toward the eye of the hook and tie in a fair clump of Pearl Angel Hair or something similar right on top of the hook near the eye. Now when you tie this in be sure to split the material “Thunder Creek” style meaning tie the material in leaving half of it hanging toward the rear of the hook and the rest off the front of the fly so you can fold it back over the point you tied in the material originally making more use out of the material your using. Now tie off your fly and add some small prismatic eyes and your good to go. As far as Epoxy goes just epoxy the body 360 deg back to the bend making a nice hard body and allowing the flash and rabbit to hang off the back. Go Get Em! | Great news from Terrance tonight. Looks like he's going to help and cover another great pattern called a Crease Fly. As much as I can tell Terrance is a very accomplished fly tier and I really am excited to have him take the wheel tomorrow night and show how to tie and create these great popper patterns. We have some kit in stock for these that Joe Blados offers which has everything you need but just not the hooks which fine. I will do another simple pattern called the Popovics Surf Candy. Very good pattern for False Albacore or Bonito and bass as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night. | Cpt Corey and Terance, thanks again for the instruction tonight. I would not have thought a month ago that I would be tying flies. My wife wants me to thank you as well, because you gave me something new to spend my money on! I definetly recommend showing up for one of these nights to anyone out there that wants to give flytying a shot. See you guys in a couple of weeks Dan |

| Guys great job last night. I really want to thank everyone for helping and Terrence fantastic job. I love the little bodies that you went ahead and pre-cut for the Crease Flies. Terrance thanks again for taking the wheel and what an awesome job and I think we all loved it...... I know I enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time as well as using your own stuff to demonstrate these flies. Lots of fun and it appears that everyone is really taking well to working with epoxy and glues other then me. Well Joe Cordiero emailed back this morning and it look like he'll be doing a few really nice flat wing patterns like the Monomoy Special and then a Flat Mac Daddy on the night of March 13th. Both patterns are in the Angelo Peluso book in the store if you want to get a peek at what we'll be doing before then. Hope to see all next week and thanks again for all the help and good luck to Dan and Justin who will be away for the next few weeks. Stay in touch guys! |

| This week we have Mr Durbin Wells taking the wheel to demo one of my favorite looking squid patterns tied by Steve Farrar of NJ. He has tied them before and many people ask to do them so this should be a great fly which could be as much fun as last weeks Crease Flies from Terrance. I'm going to do a simple pattern if time allows either before Durbin or after but this pattern is the Gartside Gurgler, a small surface popper/slider that works great when we have local bass on a the crab hatch in June and also when your looking to take any gamefish on a surface like slider style fly pattern. Super easy to tie and very effective at times. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night. | Well another great time had by all! I must say Durbin did an outstanding job teaching that tough fly. After having Durbin and Terance the week before you start to see how different people do things and how much better it is to be learning new flies. I know Brian loved it and it appeared that many others did as well. Thanks again for taking the wheel Durbin great job. O BTW Durbin... Make sure the fly police show up after we open the Plasti-Dip next time ![]() I'll email everyone in a day or so once I get Steve F on the phone but as of right now it looks like if Steve is not able or is not interested then next week will not happen. Also after giving it some thought we will also not be tying on the night of the Newport Fishing Club meeting from here out as we have about 4 members who like to get to the meetings and its the same night. Stay tuned guys! Sorry we missed you Terrance...you missed a good night man. Durbin was great and what a good looking fly both in and out of the water. Great stuff and we hope to see you at the show. |

| Well as many know the guys in the store don't usually get much time to roam during the shows its just not easy anyway. I know it was great seeing all of the new tiers roam around and sit with some of the best in the biz! Ray, Rich, Brian, Durbin and many others came by which was great to see. Steve Farrar wanted to say thanks for being a great group to hang with at the show and also wanted me to share a great picture of Ray and himself with fresh looking flash patterns someone took during the show. I'm going to see if we can get Steve to come back and do a class some time later in the winter/spring. The guys loves beer as much as the next guy and man can he twist up some bugs. Great time had my all and see everyone Thursday night. Looks like Terrance has been finally been released from the hospital for what we hope is the last time right Terrance and he can't wait to tie so he'll be doing a fly that night for us which I know I'm looking forward to and I have no idea what I'll do but what else is new. See you guys soon! ![]() |
