Default Thursady Night Tying

Hey guys,

I'm looking forward coming down to the SWE Thursday night and hanging out with every one, it should be fun shooting the Sh__ and who knows we might even get a few fly's tied in the process.

I can't decide which fly we should work on, maybe a few of you can help me decide. Check out the attached pictures and post your choice.

E-Z ZONKER
E-Z SQUID
E-Z SHRIMP
AIR HEAD
E-Z SAND EEL

Later,

Murf

Thumbs up Since you asked ...

We appreciate your time! I'm game for anything & everything, but would be interested in focus on Zonker and Airhead (assume that's the one that looks like a bloated crease fly in photo?). Squid is always a valuable pattern, however you already shared that with us at the Viking show ... but could always use a refresher if time allows

Unfortunately I haven't been around the last month, I'm finally home, so I am looking forward to tying anything!

Default Thursday's tying night

Thanks for the response guys.

I guess it looks like we are going to do the E-Z ZONKER and the AIR HEAD (courtesy of BIRI) .

Heres a brief list of things you can bring along if you have them, if not don't worry I'll bring along supplies as well.

Utility Scissors
Lighter
Bodkin
Prismatic eyes 1/16" or 3/32" & 1/4"
Grizzley Saddle Hackle (the softer and webbier the better)
White Zonker Strips (thin, about 1/8" wide or so )
Softex (if you have an older jar with a thicker "Jelly" like consistancy bring it as well as the thinner stuff)
Mono Thread (optional)
Silver, Pearl and Gold Flashabou or similar
I'll bring the hooks

That should do it.
See ya tommorrow night.

MURF

Thanks a lot Murph, I learned a lot this evening. I don't think the Softex buzz will go away anytime soon!

Default Thanks E-Z Murf

Murf,
Thank a bunch for last week man. People really enjoyed your class and I know I had a good time watching and trying to twist a few bugs up as you did the class. Thanks again.

Default Joe C will be tying tomorrow night

Guys,
Joe Cordeiro will be showing how to tie some of his patterns tomorrow night. I unfortunately will not be able to be in attendance as I have to go to a trade show in NJ. Joe is an amazing tier and teacher of traditional flatwings. He might have some stuff to use but bring what you can as I know the long narrow feathers many of his flies use are very tough if not impossible to get these days. Joe is coming to tie and hopefully it will go smooth for him. Sorry I'll miss everyone this week but I know Rob and Brian will hold down the fort just fine. Have your tools and vise and we'll try to use what we have for materials. I'm not sure if Joe will have stuff to let the class use so we'll use what we can and see what happens.

I think Joe will be covering one maybe two flies but his patterns take some time and they are as nice in the vise as they are in the water. He did not give me any idea but just said a big flatwing of sorts so natural materials like bucktails in white, olive, blues, and so on as well as Bills Body Braid and Flashabou are it really. Any long narrow hackles are great but I figure not many people have them so we'll have to get along with what we all have.
Thanks

Default March 20th Tying Session

Guys this week should be a nice relaxing evening of tying. Last week we had Joe which I know was great and of course I miss it and I know this week will be just as good. Dave Pollock, accomplished angler and fly tier, will be hanging out and tying two of his favorites. The General Practitioner and The September Night Fly. Both patterns are great for Striped Bass and many other fly eating creatures. Dave and I just spoke and he is willing to provide many of the materials he just ask that everyone try to have the basic tools for fly tying. We will have all our stuff on hand for people to use where they fit. Thanks

Also, I'll fill you guys in more tomorrow but unfortunately I think this will be the final night of fly tying for the SWE Night. With my wife Tracy scheduled for another shoulder surgery and another trade show coming in a week and boat preparation about to begin time will be tight for me. I think as the season progresses and if time allows we should all try to stay in touch and see what everyone is doing and do a few nights through the upcoming fishing season and maybe reach out and fish together or do a tying weekend. I'm still planning on trying to get Steve Farrar to venture up which he said he should be able to do later in the spring. Hope to see everyone there and I apologize ahead about the Newport Fishing Club guys not being able to make it but it is what it is. See you guys tomorrow if you can make it. Thanks
Corey

Great class last night! I first off want to thank Dave for supplying us with some great materials that if your a just a saltwater tier you might not have like Mallard Flank and Wood Duck and Golden Pheasant Tips! Great stuff. I really enjoyed the GP in Dave's Grey. Thanks Dave for showing everyone your renditions of these great patterns. I also want to thank Ray for getting some great digital video footage of the event. I'm really excited about next tying season already and we haven't even used the flies we made yet IF time allows during the upcoming season we'll have to try to meet as a group and have a tying night just to replenish the stock thats been taken in the spring and early summer. Thanks guys for being so patient and really making this tying night a huge success for everyone involved and also the SWE. I have a few pictures I've posted from last night but I really think the video Ray has will be top notch once Chris can edit it and get it on a CD it should rock. Stay in touch.
