Lack of a fly fishing market I think contributes to it. There's not as much demand from the shops because there's not as much demand from the customers so the bucktails end up going to other markets for other things. But that's only speculation. It's tough to say why it isn't like it used to be.
You just have to look at Down-n-Trout going out of business. It's a real indicator of just how much the market has shrunk. That was one of the top material sources for fly fisherman and it's just gone. Too many fly shops and too few fly fisherman.
This last batch of tails was the best in some time though, with some of the best "Ray's Fly Olive" I've ever seen.
There will be more bucktails and new materials coming into the shop in the coming weeks.
