I just thought I'd mention that there is a new floating dumbell eye made from foam available from Rainy's. Some of you might be asking, why a floating dumbell eye (Boobie Eye)? I used to make my own out of 1/8", 3/16" and 14" cylindrical foam. I have been using this type of eye for years on my deer hair flies to really make them float or I should say float up under water column, over structure and rocks. I use a 400-500 grain line to get the fly down and it tends to float up during the pause creating a tantilizing action. It will also push water when fished on an intermediate line over flats or in the surf. If anybody is interested on further info just ask. Later, "The Plastic Pimp"

I'll take a few photos and post them or e-mail them to you. You can also check out this link (if I do it right and it works). Rainy's Flies&Supplies: Premium Flies and Materials This will give you an idea how they are used on a Boobie type fly, but it doesn't really show them up close. I just tie them on the top of the shank like you would a standard dumbell eye and cement them in place. Them I take a black Sharpie and push it into the pupil area and it's done. Give me a couple of days max to post some pic's of them on fly's as well as close up's. E-Z MURF

Thanks Murf.. looks like they would be great on panfish flies as well as saltwater patterns.. I can see applications on deer hair patterns like you mentioned, also a "suspending clouser" fished on a sinking line may be interesting. -- Tom

Murph, those flies look awesome. Never thought of fishing them the way you described.....great idea. I'll add that to the arsenal. You should join the next fly swap. Or if you have any interest I've got one going on another site.....its closed but I'm the swapmaster, PM me and I can get you in.
