Default Flatwing Hackles

For those who haven't heard, flatwing saddles will be available again.

I just ordered 36 of the "research and development" hackles. Various colors including white, black, pinks, and a bunch of grizzlies.

Should be just a week or so away.

Yeah. It's the series that Joe Cordeiro has been working with them on.

These are 2nd generation saddles. There's still another generation worth of breeding to go and then hopefully there will be plenty of Flatwing Saddles available on the market.

Looking forward to them, running out of r.l.s saddles, wonder how they will compare.

Range of colors is the only question at this point.

Joe had a bunch of them he was tying with on Saturday. I'd say they're just as good as the RLS saddles. Indistinguishable, basically.

These have turned out to be less then they were advertised to be but they're probably the best option out there. We've had them at the shop for about a year now.

There's a few good ones hanging on the wall at the shop but all too often they're just a dry fly hackle and don't have enough width that the original RLS saddles had and the patterns require.

Joe Cordeiro and I were (sort of) joking about setting up a chicken farm.

Whiting just doesn't see enough in sales to justify raising the chickens that the original RLS hackles came from.

Yup... chicken farms and a polar bear refuge.
(but who gets to take the clippings off Mr. Bear)
