Default North Jersey reports

I don't know if anyone is ever in this forum, but here goes.
Started in S. Belmar yesterday morning around 5:30 AM. Picked up 2 shorts on a smack-it popper. Never saw any real bird action and by 8:30 I was on the road heading North. Fished my way up to the North end of Deal. Ton's of boats in Deal, and there were some birds, but they weren't on anything substantial. The boats were not running and gunning and all crammed together, so I have to figure they weren't on anything either. Anyway, no more fish, so I called it a day. Water temps still warm and with the air temps around 80, the fish are not going to show. Hell, they're just starting their run from New England. I think we have at least 3 weeks before it turns on.

Thumbs down

Once in a while a bass is caught, but here in NJ, the fishing really doesn't get hot until Thanksgiving. I had my boat in and was running the ocean until Jan 15th last year, and it's only a 21 footer. Seas get a little rough, but if the bass are there....
Who knows what all this warm weather is going to do to the fall run.
I was planning a trip up to RI tomorrow thru Sunday. Thought I'd start in Newport area (never fished there) and work my way down to the southern beaches i usually fish (Pt. Jude thru Watch hill area). I really don't want to fish for 2.5 days in the rain. One day and night is OK, but with the long drive and unpredictable fishing, I'm gonna pass.
Had some friends in Montauk a few days ago. That place is not on fire either. 13 fish caught between 4 guys in 3 nights. Again, not worth the drive. If it's good anywhere next week, then I'll go.

Save your gas for another time, this weekend looks like wind, rain and big dirty water. Plus the fishing here has a lot to be desired at the moment.

Later,

Thanks for the info.
I know how long the winters are in RI, so I'll post when it's good down here. It's well worth the trip as we have lots of fishable beaches, and some great jetties.
Still going to try to make it up there next week. All that bunker in the bay has got to swim by Pt. Jude. Had some incredible days there.
Hope for the best.
Jared

Default Looking for Jersey report

I'll be heading down to the International Fly Tying Symposium this weekend and plan on hitting the Island Beach State Park area with the Atlantic Salty Fly Rodders while I'm there. Most fishing will be at late afternoon and evening.

Any reports and/or advise will be appreciated. I have never fished this area and probably need more advise than reports.

Thanks,

E-Z MURF

It's been good for me every night as far as numbers go but nothing of size, biggest have been around 15 lbs. I've been north of IBSP but there's fish pretty much everywhere right now.

max saw one small school about 2 weeks ago but haven't seen them since. There are literally tons of sand eels on the beach now.
