report as we settle into novemeber many begin to turn their interest to classic late season spots such as the block and montauk. though i can say no more then rumor has that the island has been good i can speak more deiffinitivly on montauk.
in short it has been an odd season...least as far a bait goes. not a week ago i found pods of large mullet still in the wash, straglers at the least. and yet though typically months apart the herring apeared at the harbor mouth not 3 days ago.
in all fishing is currently slow. again a week ago large were normal for the boats and decent fish in great numbers were the norm for the shore guys.
at the moment i believe we are experiencing the same lull we get every year when most bait has left and the herring are yet to show in force. the only thing is that there is alot of bunker yet to come. typically the herring are last to arrive but as i said befor, they are here allready.
the next few weeks will surely see some massive pods of fish migrating through the rips between here and the block. if and when they make landfall is a crapshot. there will likely be many slow days in the next few weeks but potentially, for just a couple days things will come together resulting in what is often the seasons best fishing |
