Default Flaptails and Spinners

was it just a fad or an effective fish catching addition ? apparently Point Jude is introducing a flaptail on a tin at an upcoming show, the commotion is picked up by the lateral line of a bass before it can ever see a lure, flaps and spinners were seemingly popular in the 40's 50's etc. but when I think about them now I think freshwater primarily,...don't see em' much in modern plugs and I wonder why when it's such a simple piece of jewelry to add to make a lure more effective....

Like anything else they probably have their time and place. One thing's for sure though, you never want to cross lines with a guy fishing one of these. It happened to me and it cost me an entire spool of fireline .

Looks like something I might throw into a wily Nor'easter. A little too much comotion for calm water bass I would think. But who knows. Anything's worth a try. I don't know about the lateral line stuff, probably just the comotion that draws thier attention.
