Default Charlie off Newport?

On the various other boards etc there are reports of Bluefin being sighted and caught in Cape Cod Bay and off Chatham. I have received a minimalist report from a usually wll-informed party that 50 pound Bluefin tuna were recently sighted "off Newport" Any one care to confirm this report? My 12 weight is at the ready . . .

Typical June fish. Hearing about a sighting is usually about as good as it gets.

Last year someone got lucky and actually hit one, but these early fish are notoriously cranky and scarce.

It doesn't mean I'm not going to take a look this weekend, but my real mission will be bass.

Talking tuna tales

Your response is undoubtedly accurate and on target- once you get "hooked' on these fish, you (I) can become "finatical" - there is a part of me that keeps whispering- "the tuna are there all over the place and the locals want to keep it quiet"- damn paranoid ain't I? Thanks for the report- I too intend to look a bit maybe towards the BB buoy/Noman's- we are scrubbing tomorrow (Friday's trip) and planning on full days on Saturday and Sunday.

The reports from CC Bay and Chatham indicate there are more than just a few fish . . .

CC Bay (especially Stellwagen) and Chatham reports are fairly accurate from what I hear. Those fisheries seem to develop earlier. I bet there's actually a lot of fish that pass Newport in June, there's just not enough bait around to make them visible on the surface.
