The amazing fish of the Bay

Hi all! Long time viewer, first time blogger so please be kind. Went out last night to hunt again for the Big Bass that has my name on it...he's out there right now swimming, and eating, and growing until the time is right and we meet. But in the meantime I continue to smell skunk What I did catch, a 3.5 foot Dogfish shark, made me think of the amazing species of fish found in our local waters. I know someone recently caught a nice size sea robin, which makes me wonder why a sea robin barks but a dogfish doesn't.
Interesting trivia, did you know a female dogfish can take up to 20 years to reach full-grown 3-4 feet? What other interesting fish have you caught in our local waters?

Due the eddy of the gulf stream off of Narragansett Bay, many exotic species make it into our waters. From triggerfish, butterfly fish, small barracuda, and seahorses. While most of these are not easily caught, you can see them SCUBA diving off of Ft. Wetherill. Pretty cool...

My friend and I caught triggerfish on high and low rigs for scups, beautiful fish when they are freshly caught.

just to clarify, the seahorses unlike the aforementioned butterfly fish and others are year round local residents, the specific species being called the lined seahorse. we also have pipefish in our waters year round. the trigerfish show up every year and move south in the fall.

Ive caught stargazers here in NJ, and have seen many people catch monster Cow nosed Rays. The cow rays people catch are in excess of fifty pounds. I went lookin for them last summer with the fly rod, but had no luck. Maby this summer ill get one...........

I have heard of tarpon being caught. Also a cobia was caught last year locally.

Was it Rob that saw the manatee in the bay?
