Default Newport to Westport today...

and still not much in the way of 'core. Had them up for about 30 seconds off Warren's and they vanished. Lot's of bait balls of larger bay anchovies.

Newport, to Sachuest, to Beavertail, Narragansett, to the West Wall, both close in and a few miles out, nothing. Distinctly quiet at WW, not even many boats around.

It was a dropping tide so I hung out a few miles South of the mouth of Castle Hill for quite a while and there were some birds around but nothing obvious on the surface or the fishfinder.

I think we're paying the price for an incredible bonito season as well as the great stretch of baby bft....

What was really weird was all the happy bay anchovy balls I was sitting on and no teeth tearing into them. For the most part, even the terns left them alone with only an occassional swipe.

North a little bit... They will be comming south soon...

Haven't fished Newport/Middletown much because well i don't like bluefish and the bass were nothing large of being short... Sakonnet river is starting to see migration trends of the baby bunker which to me is a tad early... usually they are hiding out in the back marshes untill middle of October before they start to head out in small schools... Lots of huge bass and monster tautog which i am starting to find extremely aggressive like they are in the Spring...

Default Large Bass? Where, Florida?

There are no bass here. I don 't believe it anymore. I have been skunked so much, the smell will not leave me until July when I may catch a keeper again. I have had so many people say they caught bass here and there, and even fairly tales of enough bass you can walk over them. Well, I don't believe anyone anymore. I have not caught a keeper bass in a month now. I am told try here, try there, but it's alll bull. I chase down every single area or spot, and nothing. I have a ton of lures. Every kind that everyone has suggested. I use bait, (Pogie, mackeral eel), and still nothing. No one has luck this bad. I am even fishing from a boat. So, I don't believe any of these reports anymore. If I sound bitter, I am. Can you blame me? I am out at least 3 times a week from 7 to 12 hours each time, and there are two of us on the boat, andnothing for a month! Well, that's it for me. Can't take the dissapointment anymore. Yes I just got in from fishing again tonight, and completely skunked again. Well, putting the poles away, and wrapping up the boat, and do not give me that same old line I have heard all ready, about the season is still open, and fishing is going to get better. That too is BULL. That is just a rumor spread by the tackle shops to sell there products. Well, I will still watch and read these forums for awhile, but I am done fishing. Such a total waste of my time now.

That is a lot of fishing to not catch fish, for sure and certain. Take some time off from hitting the water so hard, but don't be so hasty to put up your gear. The water temps are still a bit high and the migration has not yet begun. It is hard to believe that you have fished that hard and not caught anything in a month.

Go East. I don't think I've caught a keeper bass in Newport in a month. I just looked back on my fishing reports and there's nothing distinctly positive since mid-August.

Sakonnet River, Sakonnet Point, and spots East are producing. People were pulling in bass at 2nd beach last night so Newport might FINALLY be getting some fish soon if they don't detour out to sea.
