Normally I would never burn a spot, but due to the shear scale of what's going on and the small size of the fish this really won't matter. Newport is in the middle of a large scale assault by bass under 20 inches and blues of a similar size range. Brenton Point in particular. This is pretty much the ultimate for kids if you want to get them into fishing. The fish fed continuously at my feet tonight the entire time I was there trying to catch something larger. Light tackle and fly anglers might want to jump on this as well unless you're hunting bigger fish.

The neighborhood will stay intact If you've been out there and seen the number of teeth and micro bass pete is talking about there is plenty for all with no rubbing elbows. I had no shot of finding any decent bass today from the yak. If your after more serious fish look elsewhere since it is all but impossible to get a plug past the toothed ones. But if you can't beat'em join'em - found the biggest junk plug I had and had at it. Took 10 home today - 10 less filthy animals to eat your plugs boys Wanted to kill another 100 out of pure frustartion but figured that would create bad juju. cut them up and prepared some bluefish wrapped in bacon for a family cookout tomorrow. If you've never tried this is might totally change your outlook on eating teeth. It is damn tasty! Oh by the way Pete, I was thinking about the Mako you guys got while I was sitting in 50 feet of water with 7 bled bluefish hanging off the yak Talk about chumming? Maybe not my smartest move ![]()

Saw incredible numbers of silversides today too a little further South with something fast munching them. Might be a little rough for the yak where we were though, at least with today's breeze. Nearly took waves over the gunnel in the big Regulator and even had a one peek over the bow. In the end the sea and the bonito were regulated whether they liked it or not. We ate well tonight. Turned the boat into a meat wagon. As usual, those fish like it rough. We were spinning but we saw some fly rodders really putting on a solid display of fish spotting, predicting, and boat handling in some really challenging conditions. Got to respect guys who won't put down the fly rod even in the nastiest seas and wind and still manage to hook up... Last edited by Pete_G; 08-11-2007 at 10:19 PM.

AS IN JEST AS IN HUMOR AS IN I HAVE BEEN THERE In both the yak and the PB Last weekend took the family out - and there were bait balls so thick that they were visible as " stained water The blues were running through them - leaving streaks in the bait balls like torpedos |

I found tons of peanut bunker and schoolies in 2 other south facing points early this morning. There were so many bass acting like porpoises in the waves that the ones with tags in them stood out. Wish I had the camera. Bigger fish were mixed in on the bottom. bigger meaning 30". Im cracking out the flyrod.
