Default Any baitfish around?

Any one seen baitfish or working birds around Newport lately? I haven't seen anything from Middletown to Jamestown. Pretty strange for this time of year.

I fished half heartedly last night down towards NEB - and besides being a nice night - it was hardly worth it

Saw very little - read that " no" bait in the water

Saw no surface action

Caught a few just sub legals - and one slightly larger

Maybe later tonight

What is NEB?

As for bait, I've seen lots of little bait, but nothing other than the same schoolies I've been catching all summer after it. I have not seen nor caught a bluefish in a couple of weeks. Not sure what is going on around here.

Same here. I went from East Greenwich to Jamestown then to Newport Sakonnet and back again. Not one school of baitfish or even any birds working. Disgusting. Pogie boats with no restrictions kicks the surfcaster in the arse.

Not good. I was going to go fishing this afternoon, and this evening, but if you guys are no catching anything, then a beginner dumb ass like me will certain to be skunked. Oh well, I will have to bring lots of food and chalk it up to a nice boat ride. Well, at least my expectations will be low, so nothing to lose. What do you think is going on here? Everyone keeps mentioning thatfishing should be good by now,but it has been terrible? My nephew lives in New Brunswick, Canada, and fishes the Bay Of Fundy, and says they are still catching bass up there, and said the other night there where some guys out in a boat, and were pulling them in like crazy, every couple of minutes. Is it strange there are still bass that far north?

There were loads of 4-5 inch silversides just south of Castle Hill at lunchtime today. The blues and schoolies had them pushed tight to the shore for about and hour. Otherwise I’ve noted the lack of bait from warren to westerly. Although, the Narrow River had tons of silversides as well a couple of days ago. Didn’t find anything but schoolies putting pressure on them and I worked the mouth and inside pretty thoroughly.

Default Finally

AS I've said before I fish mostly on the Navy base. Yesterday I finally found something other than sporatic schoolies working bait. Lots of birds over a mixed bunch of blues and bass. I had been fishing for schoolies, so I had a light spinning rod with 8lb test and no leader on the castmaster. First cast I hooked a nice blue, but it took me forever to get him in. I ran back to my rig, grabbed another rod with steel leader and proceeded to catch a striper (only 25"). Then they went down, but it was fun while it lasted. Hopefully we'll start seeing more of that.

Yea, I was out in my boat at lunch time yesterday, and seen the water boil with birds there for about 5 minutes, and then they were gone. Threw a few cast at them but they did not hit anything.
