Thumbs down You would have thought it was November out there

Took Jenks and Little Jenks out to hunt for Albies out front this PM - Left at the " Crack of 1:15" ( pm ) and blasted out front in a building SE breeze -

Took some shots at Brenton white water - with no joy -no birds - no nothing - save alot of big swell -( little Jenks liked the waves ) so we decided to head east.

Looked at the entire shoreline down to Doris Dukes - ( nada ) so we pushed on to Sakonnett -

Figured the outgoing current - and the white water was going to be a " sure thing" for a bass or two - but again nada

Every sure fire rock / pool/ ledge yielded nothing - not even a follow

More big water / waves - pretty scenery -but no fish

Pushed further east - expecting to see something break loose - but again nada

Went to Church's - looking for the " sure fire Albies" that were going to be haunting that area - and it was deader than a doornail

Decided that it was not to be - headed for the barn - in a still building SE that had kicked up some solid 4+ footer's - With a rapidly building western cloud cover - and a really snotty / wet ride back home- it felt like November

Peter G - we had a lot of discussion about your 20 ft to the Mudhole article - well written - and appropriate on a day like today - I would not have wanted to have been out in a smaller boat today

It blew up remarkably quickly - and the gentle rollers turned into waves really quickly

FYI - They are building a new reef - about a mile off of Land's End - with the remains of the old Jamestown Bridge - in 90 ft of water - Huge barge - with a bulldozer / front end loader on board - dumping the stuff over the side

Tomorrow is another day

Ouch. Rough day. I hate high barometric pressure when fishing.

Give me clouds and approaching low pressure any day over a building high. But, I always go when I can go.

I'm going to predict we can vertical jig bluefins off that new reef next year, if they return...

Seems like I made a sound decision to stay home and work rather than fish. Maybe today will be productive on the water.

talk about a building high - we should have a few nice days coming up

But yesterday it really built up much faster than I expected -

The run back home across the front was remenicent of my sailing days - a firehose reach - spray just blasting up at you - and where Foul Weather Gear was necessary - ( Jenks preparation is the key )

The run around Brenton into Castle Hill was really interesting - with a big following sea - that was built even bigger by the outgoing current.

How was it today, I never made it out, chained to the computer and my research paper.

I managed to get a small blue and an even smaller schoolie this morning before dawn, under some lights. Lots of blue fish in the lights, but they were picky and the bass on the shadow lines even more so. Still, beats getting skunked.

One of the things that people need to think about in even semi offshore trips - is proper foul weather gear

Getting wet / cold is no fun

On a short day trip - you can bear it for a while

But 20 + miles off shore - and getting soaked - cold - with the breeze on quickly saps the mental faculties very quickly

Years of offshore experience

ALWAYS Pack the FWG gear

And put it on early

I've spent a good chunk of my adult life at sea, usually WAY out to sea, and that is about as sound a bit of advice as you can give. Never assume anything and always be prepared. Things change in a hurry out there.
