Default water temps and an unexciting evening

Fished from the boat for a few hours deep inside Brenton reef in all the little traditionally great pockets with plugs till sundown looking for mobus. Nothing.

After the sun went down we shifted to eels on some deeper structure. Nothing but a few chopped up eels....

Tough fishing again off Rhode Island. Big surprise there.

Water temps were still a balmy 61 to 62 degrees though so there's still plenty of time. Usually it starts dropping dramatically soon though.

A couple people fishing from shore tonight in Newport have reported similar results.

We did pass mixed small bass and blues on the way past Castle Hill but large was the only fish we were really insterested in.

Fished last night, (Sun.), from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. this morning. Ha ha, I am a idiot, and gluteon for punishment. I have to say, the last two times out, only caught little fish, but had the greatest time. Last night I caught two tiny 12" schoolie bass. One I snagged in the side with a plug somehow? Caught 3 decent sized blues. One I caught while trolling, and it was out a 2 or 3 hundred feet and was jumping time after time out of the water. Very aggressive fish, and was so much fun. Still waiting to catch a keeper bass,
(2 months now), but have been having a great time lately. Not so much emphasis on it anymore, so am having a lot more fun now. Boat full of food, and just enjoying the night on the water. Love night fishing. It is the best....
Hope I can get out there a couple more times before it's time to wrap up the boat. Tried to send you a picture of the last 2 keeper bass I caught in August, but could not get the pictures to upload.

I was in a "bait" shop today and told that they are just pulling them in off the rocks...........anyone else hear such things? I find it hard to believe myself based on what I've seen and heard down on the water.

fished friday night and sunday night. Two different locations but success each time. Both nights I bought 3 eels and two came back cigars. It wasn't until the last one that caught quality bass. It's expensive but nothing beats a snake. BTW - if someone catches a 30-35lb fish with an eel in its stomach, tell her I said hi and it wasn't nice to pull the hook while Im reaching for her. I would have released her......I think.

Caught a couple striped ones from 28"-38" on the mainland side. Also got a couple of toothy ones around 16 lbs or so.

Did pretty well up in Barrington and Warren late last night. Nothing big but plenty of action. Lots of fish 25"-30" and one in the mid teens. They were all over the black mag darter (and probobly anything else 4"-5" long but I didn't bother). Nobody else was out and I went to several spots. Plenty of privacy and room to breath. There are fish all over these estuaries right now popping and slashing on peanuts and a variety of other small baits. There's bound to be some big girls up there too.
Fished outside Newport from the boat after work also. Jigged deep but only found several blues. Pretty quiet right now out there. Just before we left we did notice a large amount of bait beginning to congregate near that particular piece of structure at 50-70ft. Maybe we should have stayed. Also noticed that the blues were puking up what looked like 2"-3" butterfish. Don't see that too often.

Pete,

After I talked to you Friday I hit some high teen stripers, lots of teeth between hits and finished up the night around 2 am with 15 lb blues, every cast on a pencil popper in the moonlight. Very odd night for sure
