Default Sakonet -Little Compton Water and Shore Bound

Shot out with the boat on Saturday to see if i could find the beginning of the fall run

( I know its coming )

As I crossed Castle Hill- there were a bunch of birds just sitting - looking like they had been busy/ were going to get busy - or wanted to get busy - but as they just sat in the water- i got bored -So i went off to explore the reef - and it was barren- no birds and no action - save some guys scupping -( and seemed to be doing well at it )

Ran over to Goosebury - looked fishy - wasn't

So with the words of Horace Greely ringing in my ears - I went east -

Ran down to Sakonet - on FAC seas - - took a peek at West Island - but thought that the East was really the place to be - East Island - and just as i slowed - i saw a flock of seagulls ( not the band ) working off the eastern side -

Actually there were birds in pockets all the way down towards Westport

Just like in all the movies - the pictures - the stories - the birds were working - and they were working hard -

Sliding up into a mass of blitzing fish, and wanting to give the fish something to play with - I launched my trusty plug into it -

So the truth to the matter is that I had a little performance anxiety -

With all those fish busting about - calling out for me - it really had me a little on edge - and I fluffed the first cast - actually had to tell myself to relax -( stupid when you are the only one on the boat ) and got my second cast off into a boil - and was rewarded with a solid strike

For the next couple of hours - it was fish - fish - and of yes - more fish - cookie cutter 24 - 30 inch - with an occasional larger one thrown in the mix

Fish were not picky - took all the top water plugs that i could throw at them - and took plug - teaser - and plug/ teaser combo's

And the fish were all over the area - While the birds might move off - and work another area - there were still lots of fish left in the area - and many of them left behind seemed to be the bigger class of fish

rather than go zooming all over creation - to chase birds - I went back to my roots - and worked the rocks - Personally I prefer to aim at something rather than to just blind cast into the ocean anyway - so i tucked into the little pool / nooks - and worked the rocks

So between fish - releases - and the occasional - whoa - look out for that rock - "back up the boat moments" - I had a blast for a few hours

Towards the change of tide - the fish started to move out - and offshore more - but by then it was blowing up - getting pretty lumpy- so I decided to head for the barn

Did see three guys in a 16 ft boat bombing around in seas bigger than I would be comfortable in that boat - ( swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool )

Ran back to Brenton -lumpy 3 ft seas looking for anything intersting along the way- never saw anything save the same flock of birds at Castle Hill on the way back in

Sunday was an easy call - the weather forecast was for breeze on - and it did not dissapoint - it blew like stink - and did not even bother going out in the boat -

Did take a drive down to the beach later on - didnt see anything at Warren's Point - but went over to South Shore and it was going off on the far left corner - Of course i had the boss with me ( no hall pass to play ) - and no rods in the car - my life's story

Today - after a bunch of meaningless phone calls - i shot down to the beach with the dog and and my rod to make up for yesterday - Figured that one of us would end up having fun

Warren's point yielded a bunch of smaller fish for me - and a bunch of very interesting sticks - and rocks that were being uncovered by the waves -for the dog to bark at

We also found a new game - when I'm landing a fish - he is in the water with me - " trying to help" - or to get some love and attention - can't figure out which one

Dog thinks that I am getting him new friends to play with - and can't figure out where they go after the release

Beach gave up fish for a good while - all schoolies - and then got real quiet - like a swithch was thrown - so we headed of to South Beach for a look and a run -

South was dead - with nothing showing for miles- so we shot over to Sakonnet

Sakonnet was loaded with birds - all working - and we were rewarded with small bass pushing bait up on to the beach

Bass were not shy about working in 6 inches of water - and the bait were jumping out of the water - on to the beach trying to escape

All small bass - and quite a site to behold in bright sunshine- and truth be told - I think that the dog could have caught fish if he knew how

Again - like a switch was thrown - it was all over - and we both headed home - as someone needed a good hose down -
