So with rumours of big fish east - and a weather forecast that said Light Breeze - headed out to work the outgoing off of Sakonet -

Rounded Castle Hill to a calm seas / light breezes - except for a huge gentle swell -

Spent a little time at the reef - with no apparent life - so rather than messing with the plan - Ran straight east - looking for birds - along the way

Got over to West Island - with alot of white water and swell - making it a "bit more interesting" to fish there than usual - and being solo - had little interest in working as hard as I was setting up for safe drifts.

Flipped over to East - and picked up a few shorts - but the fish were few and far between -

( from another report - i hear that I was about 45 min late for some real mayhem )

Decided to head east until I ran into something interesting - and I would probably have been in England had I stayed that course. Nice day for a cruise - but i was after fish - so not seeing anything - I swung around west

Working back -ran into a few birds off of West - and picked up a few smaller fish

Worked down the western side of the rock - and found a pocket of fish near a breaking shoal ( why is it that all the fish are always near a rock ?) and picked them up solidly for about 30 minutes

As the drift and the breeze made it alot of work to stay in safe position - constant shuttling about - looking over your shoulder - trying to be safe - gets old real fast - and the smaller fish were not all that interesting - so I decided to head back to the barn

By now the breeze had come up -and the seas had gotten really nasty - 3 fters on top of the exhisting big swell - made and coming back across the front absolutely one of the worst rides I have had in a long time

( I actually contemplated turning back - and running up the river and around - but as i hate the slow putter up near Tiverton - I soldiered on )

Slaming my way home - I finally got to start making my turn near Brenton - and out of the corner of my eye - I see a mass of birds

Now mind you it is really crummy out there - and I was in the go home mentality- but Birds am Birds - and Birds mean fish - So fish we did

Set up my drift near R4 - and was picking them up left right and center - all on a top water plug

Looking around - ( while in a pile of birds ) I see a Real Flock of birds along the shore - i mean one of those " holy crap" look at the birds over there moments

Now I know you never leave fish to find fish - but this was one of those unreal sitations - so I ran in towards Kettledrum - where it was total chaos

The fish were right up on the rocks - up on the beach -in the surf - busting the surface - and willing to eat whatever

I mean this was what we have been waiting for - fish busting the beach - birds wheeling in the air - the crazyness of fish all over the place -

It is fall !!

Had solid action for about 45 minutes - and then they slowly started to move back offshore - and took position back out in the deeper water -

Moved back out with them and had a steady pick of fish for a while longer - and then they broke up

and the birds were still working the baitfish -

Net result -- Why Travel East - when all the fish are at your doorstep ?

There is no place like home

Weekend weather forecast looks grim

BIG BREEZE COMING ON

Excellent! Fantastic report! I got to say that was damn good to hear, really.
That sounded so good I'll be heading out early to set claim on my rock tonight. I'm feeling like it's going to get a little crowded at the saltwaters edge for the next few weeks. Good luck all!

If you go out on a rock tonight - I would buy some "Tie Downs" - and some re entry shields for your plugs- I think that they may go sub orbital when cast with the breeze

TONIGHT
W WINDS 20 TO 25 KT...DECREASING TO 15 TO 20 KT LATE.
GUSTS UP TO 40 KT. WAVES 2 TO 3 FT...EXCEPT UP TO 6 FT AT THE BAY ENTRANCE.

Yeah, you know after I wrote that, I said to myself, I'm not going out in that crap tonight. I just got fired up after reading your report, I wasn't thinking straight.

Well the wind is supposed to come W, NW; so there should (in theory) be some fishable East facing shorlines........I hope.
