| I was on the on water from Newport to Lands End, mostly out on the reef and it was pretty much the same. The smart fishermen were after blackfish. Lots of them out at Seal Ledge and other humps. It was almost comical back inside at the torpedo basin breakwater. The limit went from 3 to 10, so lots of folks were drowning crabs. Not a bass seen anywhere. We did get 1 big bluefish right at dawn, the rest of the day was a wash.

It's traditionally tough the 2nd night after a cold front. Surf Club Challenge catch results on Saturday night easily support that idea as well. Several clubs didn't even weigh in a striper. I only had two hits fishing from about 8pm to 7am. One fish was large, but when I set the hook the hook went into the belly of the giant eel I was fishing and not the fish. All I felt was huge head shakes and then a tail slap like whale and the fish was gone. Rob and Jim did find fish on almost every cast in one spot around 3am, but an angler who noticed a 20# striper laying on the beach and attempted to hone in on the action failed. Distance casting in the middle of the night was key. So much for the fish being in close at night...

I am getting confused again. First all you here is the big bass are down deep, lazy fish, then you say 20 pounder on the beach? I should have been a nuclear chemist, it would have been easier. Oh by the way Crazygoof, I found your famous Bishops Rock, and you were right, it is on Navy restricted property, so............. last night, under cover of darkness, with running lights off, I snuck it up to it in stealth mode, and anchored. Chunked, eeled, plugged, and neither of us even got a bite! You must have the magic, or I have had a fishing curse put on me. Ha ha Probably a little of both. Oh well, I guess I will wait until I here some better reports before I go out again. Take care. Oh, thanks for the info Joel.

For one thing....i def dont suggest running into navy property....they wont go lightly just cause your fishing... secondly 20 is not a "huge" bass but either way...they are lazy but sometimes they do come in at night....the lazyness that people talk about is so we understand why we're reeling so slow and buying such realitic lures and working them perfectly is what makes the bigguns come up an pounce

I fished with another club in the MS tournament (not to be mentioned on this forum) and everyone said the same thing....the bite was good Friday night. After that, it was dead from Gannsett to Weekapaug. With that many guys fishing, there has to be some credibility with this theory about cold fronts.

Froze my butt of Friday night from 10:30 until 1:30. Dry tops are great, but you gotta keep that neck covered! Had 1 bump and one hook up. Landed a 26" bass at Weekapaug on a blurple Salty needle with a blurple rubber worm strung on the tail. My buddy got a 12" blue at the Andrea. Hit Weeks again yesterday AM from 4:30-7. One bump on that same blurple needle. Is the fishing ever going to get good in Soco???
