Tuesday / Weds Tuesday's - plan to get out was aborted due to the fact that I believed the weather report - WRONG- and then allowed myself caught up in phone calls that ate up the early part of the day.
Ended up at the beach around 4 , just as the breeze decided to turn on , and that combined with the left over swell / some weeds - made it a short trip.
Today - Weds - decided to take advantage of the weather - and go look for everything that we saw last Friday
As I was leaving the house in the morning- I caught the sight of some birds working right out front of me - so it seemed that we
Cruised down to the Dumplings - where they were stacked up - but nothing was showing
Pushed on further south - covering both Beavertail and West Passage - nada
Out front the left over swell was still present from the storms of last week - but no seas on top of them
Played the reef for a while - nada-
Worked Seal Rock - Nada
( Saw some other guys working the break there with the same results )
Worked Gooseburry - Nada
Worked Land's End - Nada
Ran east - and worked all of Sakonnet - NADA
The left over swell made parts of the area difficult to fish - The corner of East Island was VERY IMPRESSIVE - but i couldn't buy a follow
Didn't feel like pushing further east ( probably was a mistake - and will read reports that Wesport was on fire )
Worked the inside of Stonehenge - NADA
( even places that " always" hold fish on the back side were empty )
Cruised up the River for a bit - and never saw any life - so I turned west / covering the front of third beach - with no life showiing
Did have the opportunity to follow some birds sporadically DIVING on bait - off third beach gannets? - but there was nothing evident underneath them- and once they flocked up - they headed SW - and kept on going
At some point - you recognize that this is not going to be your day - and that the fish are not to be found - so - the Ipod got plugged in -and with tunes playing - I enjoyed Nov 1 and beuatiful weather
Worked back across the front - and hit the reef again - absoultely peppered it - with nary a follow -
Ran over to Beavertail - need I tell you the results -
Decided that the fish were not out front -( duh) and ran up west passage - figuring that i had to find some signs of life -
Never saw anything the entire trip north- most birds i saw were following a dragger on the back side of Jamestown -
Pushed up 1/2 way on the west side of Prudence - nothing
Swung back to the eastern side of Prudence - nothing - Played off the T docks - saw nothing - marked nothing
Tried the break off of Dyer - nada
As the sun was starting to go down -decided to call it a day after trying the rocks off of NEB - with the same null responce
Alot of water covered
Threw everything in the book at them
Nobody was home anywhere
But for Nov 1- who can complain - had a very pretty day on the water
and air temps were in the 60's
Water temps
Upper bay 57 - found one cold spot in the upper bay of 55 - but i think that it was run off from the rainstorm - not the bay itself
Out front 57 - 58
Closest i got to a fish all day was the tunafish sandwich that I made for dinner
Planning to use the yak tomorrow - weather permitting- and see if a concentrated approach on Sakonnet will yield something |
