Big Tuna

Today I was out around Mackerel Cove with a popper but only caught one small striper. Went over to Breton and then to 1st beach but didn't see any surface action or baitfish. Where did they all go? When I got back outside the bay, at least a 200 pound tuna came out of the water three times feeding. Where are the blues, stripers, and albies?

I don't know where all the others went (mostly East I'd bet, as that seemed to be where the bait was going), but the concept of tuna that large close to shore has me losing sleep.

Sea Dangles an I where finishing up a mostly lame jigg tossing stint in the ditch when i saw a huge splash pretty close to shore.I was sure it was a fish.He said tuna an it didn't sink in right away after mentioning this to several others later on.I was convinced it was a tuna.Probably doin it's high speed swimmin thing.Came near the edge an ran out of room.This just blows my mind.

Unless you were close enough to get a positive ID - is it possible it was a MOLA? I've seen some of them breaching very close to shore at the mouth of the sakonnet.

OK, I'm new to the saltwater so I'll ask the stupid question ... what's a MOLA? In my home state of Mass, I always thought they were the teeth in the back of my mouth

I AM POSITIVE it wasn't a MOLA. This was definitely a big tuna- most likely bluefin. It's whole body came out of the water three times. I have never seen anything like it other than in Costa Rica...
