Default The weather broke........

So,
It was pretty crappy out on the water for much of the past few days, did any one fish? I did a bit on Sat. AM and then again this morning. My 10yr old daughter caught her first striper, all 24" of it on a Storm jig, so my weekend was outstanding. She even agreed that getting up at 4 AM is worth is when you catch fish. Nothing of any size around though. Maybe I need to try the Sakonnet side, but I'm not familiar with the water over there. Any pointers - without spot burning.

Went fishing Monday, btween the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., only time I could go! Got one striper about 24" only. No other bites or nothing. I was fishing around middle of bay near Gould Island. There were 6 other boats there, and did not see anyone catch anything. People I asked said they were completely skunked? I am new at all this, but does this get better? Is my fishing done this year, or are bass and blues going to be around again?

It was funny reading about how the fishing had died off around Aquidneck Island, but through the worst of the rain and wind, through the entire weekend I found great fishing each night at different places around the Navy Base, through both high and low tides. Blues and small stripers were abundant, and the Pt. Jude Wobbler that the guys at the shop set me up with did the trick every night. Even when I lost it, a Yokozuri Minnow worked, too, in pitch black. Maybe it was the lights that helped...not sure.

I can't say that the fishing has been spectacular but I've been getting into pods of small bass. The blues seem strangely absent at least the places I've been fishing.

Hopefully those clouds to the north roll in around moonrise!

rockhopper,
There have been few fish around, but all small. The blues are scattered and sporadic, not what I would call great. I'm hopping the fishing will shift from a couple fish an hour to a fish a cast, with some fish of substance mixed in. Lots of bait around, but still no big schools of fish. I've caught fish every day this week, but nothing over 25".

OPPS, somehow I sent my message before finishing. here is the rest......... Am I doing something wrong? Am I relying on bait to much? Using the wrong kind? Should I be plugging? Or trying all the above? Is there a reason they do not touch anything, and there is nothing I can do? Basswipe also mentioned the cloud cover during the full moon? What does it all mean? Is the moon light bad, because I love it? Is it better if the clouds are covering, or pitch dark better?

This part of my message should have posted before my previous one? Don't know what happened. Anyway.
Rockhopper mentioned being around the base and having some luck. I was there day and night, and seen many fish on my fish finder, but they would not touch the Pogie I was using........(Now go back to my previous post for the rest of this.)

Basswipe mentioned something about cloud cover? Is the moonlight bad? Pitch dark better? Someone let me know?

Generally speaking bright moonlight tends to make bass a little wary and stay deep. This effects the shore fisherman particularly. This is not a steadfast rule as I've done well under a bright moon before.Fishing shadowlines can be very productive during the fullmoon period.
