Many people dont realize the bigger fish, lean racers at the head of the pack show up with the smaller fish of early April. In years past when we could use herring a few of us would quietly catch some low to mid 20lb fish along the East Bay stone beaches before the April trout opener year after year.

So, are you saying some fish can be had in early April? Is it worth trying to fish in early April? If so where? South Countymaybe, or Providence river?

First Migratory....................OR................... ...............First Hold Over?

Aren't youse guys talking about the first Migratory keepah? Frightnight, we could catch holdovers at the powerplant all year long. Heard there are some decent size feesh there too. But when you say FIRST, to me, that apllies to the migrators. Heard that waz huge amongst the Locals. The race to the first of the Ocean Tribe, so to speak.

Won't be hittin' SOCO til mid May, round the new. Then it's game on!!!
Will post some LAHHHGE, if all goes well .

Yes, we are talking about migratory in this case, but earlier we were talking power plant. Some people say they go out April 1st for the migratory, and most say may 10th. What does everyone think of that?

As far as 20# fish the second saturday in April, I don't know. About 3 years ago A 32#er was taken the second week of April. From the spot it was caught it was probably a holdover. When I used to chase the herring around the earliest keeper size fish we saw was April 26. The biggest one we got was 13#. These were fresh fish.
