Default Who will catch first bass?

It's March first...... Let's see who will go out here, in RI waters, and catch the first bass of the year? Whoever does, come here, tell us who you are, what you caught, where, and with what lure or bait, and please include a picture if possible. No bullshitters please. No,,, I know no one is going out this weekend to catch, Just wanted to post this now, to get the word out, plus the subject in this forum had not changed since December.

The boys made the trip up to the riv last night and landed three fish. March 1st isn't bad for your first striper of the year if you don't mind mending your line around faded Bud cans and river rats. As far as I've heard, the diehards have had a pretty good fishery up there this winter. Definitely worth a shot if you've got the bug. The power plant sticks out like a sore thumb so it's easy to find and if you dredge the bottom of this small pool with 3" storm shads it's almost a guarantee that you will be rewarded. Now, when will the first "real" migrated fish be caught ocean side? That's always a local cut throat competition, just over a month away........

Earl, thats great!!!! I did not expect a response for a wile. Glad to hear from you. I do not know where the power plant is you are referring to? In Providence? Isn't there many up there, or is it obvious? I would love to go catch some thing. Have a few questions? Did you fish from the power plant? The way you stated it, sounds like you went up in a boat? How long did you fish to catch 3 fish? Schoolies, correct?

Last year was one of the earliest years I've caught fresh run fish in the Sakonnet River area.

I'm not willing to travel all the way down to the breachways for the first arrivals of the year,so I probably won't be the first!I will post when I do get my 1st fish.I'll go for my 1st outing when everyone else is crammed in around the trout ponds.

Great, love to here the particulars, and would love to start seeing some new photos of fish, instead of last years that we may already have seen.

its the power plant right under I-195, u fish from shore but not next to the plant as they have it all fenced off. rule number one is that there is no specific spot, even if ur in the right spot you may be fishing the wrong part of the water column. the other night we were there maybe an hour and had a number of other light hits, likly fish to small to eat even a cokanese minnoe (sp?) somethimes there one one bank, then the other, then way up by the second bridge, sometimes they seem to be everywhere and sometimes u cant buy a bite...one way or another it will kick the bug for a few days if necesary

Hey Arden,
Thanks so much for the info. It appears there is only schoolies there I guess. I will have to give it a shot one of these days. At least I will hear the reels going again. LOL If I get up there, and am lucky enough to get anything, I will take a picture, and post it. Going to be cold for a few days so, maybe this Sunday, if it's not to cold. Thanks again. Oh yea, Basswipe, Yes April 1st is what I expected before anyone even gave it a shot. Maybe we will have a warm spring, considering the winter we had?

Frightnight, Arden just about summed it up, he was one of the boys that caught the fish the other night. Dredging the bottom with a 3" Tsunami shad in chartreuse or white should do the trick if you plan on making the trip. Call us here at the shop if you've got any questions, we would love to help!
