Default Threadless Wraps

Any rod builders out there seen the threadless wraps being used on some rods lately. Any thoughts about it? I'm going to give this a whirl and see what happens. Anyone have a source for coated guides?

Post Threadless Guide Wraps

Bill Stevens did a good article in the Rod Maker magazine volume 9 issue 6 on the threadless guide wrap. Small surgical tubing 1/16 inch wide to hold the guide in place lift guide and put small amount of 30 minute clear two part epoxy under each foot on the guide. When the guide is dry cut and remove tubing rings.Apply Perma Gloss ( U40 ) regular epoxy will not work over the guide let sit 2 hours, apply three more coats at 30 minute intervals.
My thoughts, and just my 2 cents I'll stick to a thread wrap, they say they are strong, but when a 12 lb. Albie is smoking my backing on a 10 weight i really don't want the guides going with it.

i have to agree with tom kirkman, this is more practical on lighter saltwater (i'd pass on all sw personally) and light freshwater applications. for some, just putting the thread on the guides makes them stand out as a nice rod.

Default Threadless wraps ? !

Ditto on the thread wraps - I'll continue to use thread for the wraps .... it's the thread that provides the strength in the wrap, the epoxy is for sealing and protecting the thread wraps.
