Default upper bay

Waiting for the wind and swell to become more manageable I’ve been fishing some of my springtime spots up inside the Narragansett Bay. These include little inlets and rivers between tidal estuaries and bays. The peanuts are amassing in numbers I don’t think I’ve ever seen before and are not remaining unmolested either. There are more than blues pushing them around (contrary to popular belief) and all day but mostly dusk till dawn there are school bass up to 12lbs (maybe even bigger) pushing them around, popping on them, and hiding in holes in channels waiting for a meal to swim there way. I’ve had luck with soft plastics with different weight heads drifted and bounced sloooooowly as well as with small redfins twitched and drifted along the top.

The swell has softened a little today out front, but not much, so if your looking for something to do before the heading out there again try some of the little cuts an channels that litter the upper bay. And when these peanuts drop out in large numbers starting by the next moon you can be sure that complete mayhem will ensue at the mouth of the bay and all points east and west!

Ok, what ever all that meant. I am assuming you are saying the upper pay is hot? The lower bay has been dead for me, but I am a beginner so maybe it's mostly me. I was doing weel in July and half way though August but has gradually gotten slower and slower, until last night was so bad, I was completely skunked. No blues even. Pretty frustrated now, and ready to quit for the rest of this year. Is the upper bay better now?

Upper Bay is having one of the best fall runs I've seen in a while. Guys are catching schoolies from the beach at Barrington some evenings. They aren't just mixed w/ blues they're also in their own schools blitzing the beach.

Another spot in that neighborhood gave up 2 bass in the upper teens (pounds) a few days ago.

Fishing from shore, I spent time the last 2 weeks fishing both areas and Barrington has been the most consistent local. Stripers and blues on the fly.

I have been in Denver since Monday so I am itching to get back and hook up some reel fish. Figure to stick with upper bay until it cools off then move south. I have only been hooked on this sport for the last year or so but was catching stipers in south county in late fall.

Folks we are just getting started don't hang the gear up yet.

Fish on
