Question Eel slinging and slugos Where and How

Iam looking for help in getting the most from my time while fishing with eels and slugos but with several attempt of casting eels around the rock of second beach and 12mile drive i haven't had a tap . which leads me to question my methods. here are my questions

1. do you cast and reel the eel or let it sit like a chunk bait

2. rocks or beach surf or both

3 do you stay casting in one spot or is it about covering a large area

4. falling or rising tide

5. weather

6. times early am or pm or 9pm-5am

I am by no means an eeling expert, however I have had allot of my luck with eels in both very rocky areas (Montauk/ North shore boulder fields) and backbays. 2 things are usually constant. I like to fish moving water and nighttime is best. Rising or dropping tide most likely depends on the place you are fishing. No one tide can work for everywhere. I usually use a 7/0 gamagatsu Circle (I think its 7/0 !? ) and cast into moving water, not ripping, and let it get as close to the bottom as possible. After the eel gets down I begin to reel it very slowly, almost like fishing a needle. I have at times used eels as a scouting bait, when fishing a new area, but most of the time I pick an area that has produced in the past and try to fish it with eels rather than moving around too much. You have to be patient, especially when you get a hit! It is not like plug fishing. Do not set the hook right away. Bow your rod ( I use an 11 ft, gives me enough length to drop the rod to the fish) and give the fish a few seconds, then set the hook, and with circles all you do is reel tight. Hope this makes sense! Good luck!!

Default Eels And Sluggos

..WDMSO----- Keep using eels and you will catch. Also use a snap on the sluggos. It won't ruin the action.
