Default Footwear for the Rocks

What are your preferences for staying attached to the rocks?

I've recently noticed a lot of surf fisherman saying they get by with just felt, and these are veteran anglers so I have to respect it. And felt does hold on clean rocks and even rocks with a bit of black slime fairly well.

For me though I like my Korkers, the lighter lace up style. Or anything else with metal spikes. They just grab through bubbleweed, thick slime, and whatever else seems to accumulate on the rocks much better then felt ever could. Sometimes you're walking on clean rocks, but you might need to walk somewhere that requires the extra bite of metal studs. Possibly when landing a big fish...

Thoughts?

Personally, I like korkers that have been modd'ed up. (SS bolts) I was using lace ups for the last couple seasons, but found an old pair of buckle style in my stash, so went back to them. Not sure I really have a preference now. One thing I like better about the buckle style is that the bolts stay in them better than the lace up style as the have metal washer inside the rubber on each cleat. I don't think I could get by anymore without korkers, but then I think back to when I used to not use them. In my poorer / googan days, I even used sneakers over stocking foot waders on the rocks...

Korkers for me. Like you said Pete, they cut thru the slime and weeds on the rocks we stand. I feel much more stable with Korkers than anythinge else. I recently purchased wading boots with studs in them. Tried them out and, while they held, they were not like the tie-up korkers. I was sliding on bubble weed.

Korkers for me too. I feel you nailed the reason why with bubbleweed and black slime, felt may be ok on clean rock but not that stuff. I like the traction and sense of security I get with them and feel they're necessary at more than 95% of the places I go.

I've got both kinds of Korkers, but the lace ups are lighter and more comfortable.

Big fan of lace up Korkers. I feel planted to most surfaces as opposed to plain felt soled waders which slip out from under you on nearly every surface except dry rock. Its an incredible feeling of security knowing you have small points stuck into every imperfection that rock has to offer.

they come with 2 detachable soles

felt sole modified with 3/4" 10-24 stainless maichine screws

lightwieght, support and the added advantage of stainless screws..

by far the best I have used....

i 've gone a little extreme for the tuff mussel cover rock and the heavy weed associated with the outer rocks . use dui (divers unlimited ) rock boots and studded them with 3/4 inch stainless carbide tip snow mobile spikes . will try and get a photo posted last set of studs out lasted the boots as i wore through the sides first!!!! a few other guys use them in the land of "M" korkers are still tops under the light or jetty hopping
