Default best braid for the rocks

While many people feel only mono for boneyards, I know more then a few people who prefer braid in the rocks or are unwilling to go back to mono.

I REALLY don't like mono anymore, so I stick with braid even though I mostly fish the rocks. Fireline has been good in the rocks for me over the years.

I've also been using Suffix Braid for most of the season and I've been impressed with that line as well. Even in your hands you can feel the difference with this line; it's very smooth. I picture it sliding over rocks a bit more then Power Pro which definitely feels coarse in your hand.

Power Pro has been mixed for me, sometimes I'm impressed with the abuse it withstands and then other times...

After being disappointed with line failure and breakoffs several times with power pro I made the switch to Fireline and I have been so impressed and satisfied with it I don't feel a need to make a change and try anything else. This line has proven ability by repeatedly handling the boniest of areas and landing some impressive fish.

I used to use mono in heavy current around rocks because it seemed more forgiving. But after losing some good fish and being spoiled by the sensitivity and hooksetting ability of braid I now use 50-65lb power-pro in those situations. Otherwise it’s 14-30 lb fireline with 20lb being my personal favorite. OK, OK. I know what you’re going to say, he’s cheating with 65lb. The reason I use it is because of the diameter which really helps around rocks and it is primarily used as my Breachway rig. All I know is whoever made the 50lb tackle limit for the IGFA world record stripers never tried to pull a 30lb+ fish through the rocks at Quonny. I still lose plenty of big fish using the heavy stuff anyway.

i like the new spiderwire stealth, 50#. it is very forgiving, especially on the your thumb skin, and its cheap. i have been using it for 3 years now. i am extremely anal about changing it though. a nick and its reversed or changed.

30 pound fireline. Although, sometimes when I fish a pencil popper the line gets trapped under the spool.

I have used sufix for most of this season and i must say i have not been let down. Had a bass swim all the way around the outer rocks at the Hill and dragged her back around against the current and after the event no wear on the line.

What LB test on the suffix..
I need something for the ditch something that will break 40 lb leader.that is thinner than 30 lb fireline.
I need to cast 20 ft further...
Most times abaraision is not a problem there.

Default Braid

I've been using spiderwire stealth this year as I deep sixed the power pro this spring for just too many mystery breaks as I hear that's what they called them, mystery breaks. Who wants mystery breaks? Not anyone I know wants to loose a fish, plug, line leader and a teaser. I did see somewhere (probably a spiderwire ad) that both lines shown under a scope reveals the breakdown of the pp which could be a cause for these mysyery breaks. So far this year from the switch I haven't, ahh, maybe I should say it's been a very good year. The stealth is supposedly the replacement for what was previously known as whiplash and as I understand that had a high abrasion resistency. Good luck
