Be careful. There've been some very well-respected surf-fishermen, and from most accounts great guys, selling custom plugs on ebay for high costs the past couple of years. And for some good reasons. Whose to say who is wrong for selling plugs for what the market will bear and who is "crazy" for paying high costs. Maybe some people need the money, maybe some people put a higher value on some of the plugs. I'm a little sick of all the know-it-alls criticizing those for selling & buying plugs at high costs. It's a free market, isn't it? Just ignore it and don't buy them.

Joe, I'm not a know-it-all and I fortunately have very little problem getting the plugs I want at fair market value. My problem is with guy who intentionally goes into the shops buying large quantities of plugs for pure profit. I agree that there is nothing wrong with an angler trading or selling his plugs for whatever the market will give, especially if he is in a situation where his finances are strapped. That is a completely different thing, to me at least, than the individual that buys plugs with the sole purpose of inflating the price for big profits. You obviously can't compare this form a moral standpoint but as an example what if the product was medicine. Would it be ok with you that people were buying it up only to resell at a much higher price to make a profit? If the medicine is in short supply than most would consider it wrong for this to be happening. What about the gas price gorging people were worried about not long ago. IS / would that be OK. Hey if the station could get $5.00 a gallon why not? Would you be OK paying that? Free market is an integral part of our society but sometimes what is legal and what is right are not the same thing. That being said maybe this guy is just an average angler with a large collection he is trying to unload. If that is the case than I would apologize. But buying and selling just to make a buck doesn't sit well for me. Last edited by swanny; 12-15-2007 at 03:31 PM.

Swanny Wasn't implying that you were the one being the know-it-all. There are lots of other guys saying this stuff over & over. And I just said there are some other good guys selling stuff. You're right however about the buying just to resell - which that guy Vin did do because those 4 danny's he's selling are the exact 4 colors a Long Island shop just was selling & sold out of.

I think I may have jumped the gun and need to apologize. In all honesty, what really set me off was this guy making money off john habs plugs. the guy passes and now people are going to try to make a ton off his stuff. That sits bad. But, I just looked more carefully and it seems, if it is true, that this guy vin is having family problems and needs to sell all his plugs. That's what his description on ebay says anyway. If that's true then shame on me. We all need to do whatever is necessary to survive and take care of our family.

I haven't posted here before, but do read once in awhile. I was watching his auctions last year and saw some really nice vintage Musso stuff going up but then some funny stuff started coming out. Google search "Vinh718 ebay scam" and you'll come up with a thread on SOL about the guy. The strangest part is how he still maintains 100% positive feedback.

put em back Thank you. I spoke with a few people and they confirmed what you said about bidding on his own items to drive up the price, but I imagine that musso mackeral bottle plugs will not need to be artifically inflated. Billy

What do you think about buying a few extra plugs to sell on ebay in order to pay for the few that you use? That would not necessarily be a "money making" model rather a "break even" model if you are willing to go through the effort of selling/shipping.
