Default menhaden article

Here's a good article on the Menhaden fishery and history. Certainly a very important little fish. Good read:

Great article. I've read some articles about menhaden before but I had no idea about Omega Protein, Glazers, etc. It makes me hate Tampa Bay now. I can't believe they have the market wrapped up also. Not withstanding, our
Waterford friend and pogie reports in the upper bay, I have to believe that from east beach and points north haven't seen that many pogies this year. It's good news their around though. These pogie boats are ruining the surfcaster's success. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I remember when, you could take the Jamestown & Newport bridges and you'd see at least one football field sized pod for certain. Now this year, I've seen one.

Well I hope we see more big schools of "bunker"in years to come. They filter the water-They feed the bass-the blue fish to.I hope we see the day you could walk a cross "gansett bay"on the bunkers backs. They are a very important fish to the health of the bays and oceans.Omega protein corp. is the arm pit of corp.I don"t for one min. think that they would'nt try an wipe out the menhaden if they could.
