Hello Islander, welcome to the forums.

Since you're on Aquidneck Island and probably fishing here you're going to want the Newport Fishing Permit, in case you don't already have one or know about it.

The bad news is you only have until May 1st to get it. Bring $60, your registration, and license to Newport City Hall asap so you have access to all the key parking spots. You can get by without it, but it will save you a lot of walking...

Hey, Pete.............

do you have to be a Rhode Island resident to
obtain the parking permit?

WELCOME, Islander!!!

these guys are great, ask often and fish hard.

you WILL be amazed at how fast you'll learn here.

Default fishing permit

Does this Permit make it so that if you are from Middletown, and decide to go fishing in a Newport residential area only, it is okay to park there then? I have always heard people talking about getting this permit, but I didn't really understand why. I was just curious if this would make some fishing spots that you need a Newport sticker, available to Middletown`rs. Thanks for the help!

It'll allow you to park at certain spots at night, no matter where you are from, and even a Newport resident would need the Newport Fishing Permit as they can't park at some fishing spots at night either.

Basically if you want to park at some of the key access points in Newport at night and you live in Newport or elsewhere you need/want this permit. It won't do anything for you in regards to parking during the day though. Just today and tomorrow left to get it.

Welcome Islander!

You may be suprised by the resources available to you. A professor, coach, or custodian...may have a boat, shore access, or honey hole to share. Nothing like seeing a new guy hook up...

I never pulled an all-nighter for college or graduate school, but have for the stripers (in my 40's). They draw you in like that.

Good luck.

Hey Islander,
Welcome.... and as many have said, you have come to the right place. I am new to the fishing thing also, and have learned a ton from everyone in this forum. If not for them, I would have given up a long time ago, so,take it from me...the King of Frustration....lol... Stick with it,, it will come along. Thats is what everyone here told me awhile back, and I did, and they were right. Last year was my 2nd year of fishing. First year, hardly caught anything...last year, caught a ton. I am not a shore fisherman too much,,, mostly from my boat, but if you would like to try boat fishing sometime, let me know, and we will hook up, and get you out there. Good luck!!!
Pete?? Or whoever? I never heard of a fishing/parking permit? Never knew it existed? Long as you don't park in restricted areas, can park wherever you want, especially in Middletown. This permit let you park in restricted areas at night?
