I think there's always fish passing by the open beaches but intercepting them is tough in the early spring. The guys who do seem to pull it off are usually fishing squid or chunking bunker.

Usually Newport seems to come to life around now. I think I'm going to leave the Bay behind for the first time this year and give the open ocean shoreline of Newport a try tomorrow night.

there are no fish at the coastal locations and ocean facing beaches...all fish are in the bay along with all of the bait and will remain there until late November so there's no reason to fish the above mentioned areas, especially with spearguns

I got lazy and skipped fishing the Newport shore and just fished in boots for a few hours in the evening in the Bay. I was run down after a long day at the shop and just didn't have the drive.

Maybe tonight.

pete, I was looking forward to hearing your take after venturing out front, like danny I've been a little frustrated for the last week or so as things have slowed a bit in the areas he was referencing but I think things are about to change!

The ocean facing beaches in L.Compton are the only places that I'm doing well at.
When I've had the time anyways.
