Question saltwater fishing license??

On Sunday and article in the SUNDAY MONITOR (Concord, NH) implied that as January 2009 there will be the need for a saltwater license. Is this just for NH or are there other states doing this or is it to be a national thing?

Are we going to have to buy SW licences each time we take a trip?

no i saw this on the news i think its great i see toooooooooo many small fish being taking i would love to be a warden and slap some BIG fines on these people which i think 40% goes back into the system for the fishery.i think ma and riare in on it .it gives a reason for the game warden to come up to someone.im all for it i hope its atleast 30 50 $a season .this will keep those loosers away .the way i see get those people off the waterthat do this kind of stuff and protect the fishery that we have.

I belive starting January 2009 all striper fisherman along the eastern shore need to reg. with the feds due to the Magnuss Fergesun act..I belive most states will opt for a lic. in order to keep track of the fish totals some how..I rrrreally don't feel a lic. will keep people from taking more than their limit or will it deter keeping shorts..Hell tonight I saw a father and son team take two shorts from the surf in Newport RI...I asked about the fish saying they looked kinda small and dear old dads answer was "I didn't want to wreck the kids night by tossing them back...he's so proud that we caught fish"..I said the kid would probably be proud to be able to see his kids catch fish some day also..Some people have no clue!!! How about a lic. to have kids...I'm all in..Hell i'll do one better...I'll turn in my son if I don't pass the exam...Hell i may not even study if he doesn't get a job!!! I will buy a lic. to fish the salt!!!

figures, great opportunity to teach the kid about sportsmanship and responsibility and and respect for the environment(I though that was a really big one these days) instead he tell's the kid it's ok to ignore the law because his/her feelings are more important...ughhh! would have been great to have the "Patrol" handy to teach dad a lesson w/ junior standing there to learn form dad's stupidity..."hate to WRECK YOUR NIGHT but I'll take that rod and those fish now sir....."

Default I haven't seen the specifics

I haven't seen the specifics. Will it be for all anglers? If I take my family and friends out on my boat will everyone in the boat require a license including my kids? Not that I won't pay for the licenses but I have kind of a big family. I'm want the money to go towards the fisheries as well but RI has the ominous "General Fund" which seems to capture a lot of the misc funds these days.

From what I have read in the past the federal gov. by 2009 is mandating saltwater lic. for all eastern seaboard states. If the individual states do not set up their own the feds will impose theirs. As all laws are wriiten all the money is suppose to go back into the fisheries orf the states, but everyone knows how that will go. I agree with the idea if the money is used properly but I don't think it will slow down the taking of undersized fish or taking more than your limit. I think it is more of a tax on the honest fisherman who will do the right thing whether they have a lic or not. I know I'll pay for one.
As for the guy and his son taking samll fish, that is just wrong. I have fished with my son since he was six, and the thrill of just catch a fish for a long time was good enough for him. We have caught many not quite legal stipers and have put them all back, and it makes him more determined to make "just one more cast dad" to get a keeper.

Yeah it would have. Too bad the "patrol" doesn't check for violations outside of Dunkin Donuts' parking lot Those rocks are slippery and they might scuff their shoes.
