Default Soctsman in NEwport ... Somewhere to spin for a while ?

Hi,

i'm a Scotsman who will be in Newport for a few days early september and I'm looking for somewhere to casually spin for a while and just wanted to know a couple of things :
1) Wheres a good place to fish from ? The kind of fishing I'm talking about is usually done from piers or from rocks back home.
2) What can i look to catch ? Back home I'm usually after mackerel or sea trout when spinning or when fishing a piece of bait going for sea bass or pollock.
3) What would work in the local waters ? I normally fish 1-3 oz spinners of various different silver gold colors or fish a strip of bait on a paternoster.

Just somewhere to chuck a line in for a couple of hours would be great, also curious as to whats edible and whats not - I've read about high PCB levels in the area and want to know what to be careful of.

Thanks
Tony

Default Welcome To Newport

Hi Tony,

Glad to hear you'll be visiting. Make sure to stop by the shop to get all the latest info when you're here. Find us @ 1077 Aquidneck Ave in Middletown. As for some general info, depending on when you'll be coming you'll see action on Striped Bass & Blue fish from shore. When is it you'll be in town Tony? And what is a paternoster? Looking forward to seeing you.
