My name is Chip. I am in my mid 40's, and I grew up in Newport, and fished as a kid of the pier for snapper blues, squid, pogies, flounder, mostly small game. I have always wanted to take up grown up fishing, but do not really like soing it from the rocks where there can be so many people. So this year I bought a brand new boat, and am starting to fish, but am a complete amatuer. I really want to catch big fish, bass, blues, whatever. The bigger the better. Really in it for the sport of catching. I mostly release what I catch. I really like fishing from a boat. Any info anyone wants to give me as far as where to fish, what to use, plugs or bait, and what kind. Techniques, and dos and don'ts. Best time to fish, etc., would all be greatly appreciated! I live in Middletown now, and am always looking for a fishing buddy if any one is looking to go out in my boat and teach me stuff. It is not really a fishing boat, but it doubles as one. 19 and a half Bayliner Sport. It is brand new, so I try to keep the fish mess of the back for easy clean up. Well look forward to hearing from everyone.

My name is Dave, and my username implies, I primarily lure fish from shore; with two young kids and a 9-5, I only have the luxury of getting to the water when there's an hour or two to spare. But as a newbie, like many lurking in these forums, I'm definitely addicted and enjoying the exchange of ideas and suggestions. I was never much of a forum user, but I've been sucked into this one, so good for you guys at SWE...it'll be your best assest as the community grows. Thanks for getting it going.

My name is Kevin, I'm 21 and a student at Roger Williams. I grew up in Jersey and recently moved much closer to the water there so I've really gotten into surfcasting since I came to school and am now only about 20 minutes from a beach in Jersey. I am primarily a shore fisherman but would love to get out in a boat if the opportunity arises. I also like to surf. I work for a company called 1-800-gotjunk. My current setup is a shimano spheros 8000 with a breakaway 1208 however I am having a gsb1201m made as I type. Either that setup or a penn 5500ss on a 8'6 tsunami

I am an obsessed hard core surf fisherman. If I head out less than 100 times a year, I twitch during the off-season. My wondeful wife lets me do as I please as long as its fishing related .Its amazing....surfcasting is a lifestyle that is grown into. I think this saying fits me to a "t". "This is what I am, this is what I have become, a surfcaster" The one thing I enjoy the most about fishing is the solitude. I fish primarily with one other guy. If there is more than that I go elsewhere. I would much rather catch nothing than stand in a picket line. If you see me out some night, I am the guy standing over there away from the crowd.

Hello fellow fishermen. Ive been fishin the surf for three years now. I fished clams for about a year then i got really bored of it and started plugging. I found that i caught a LOT more fish and had a lot more fun. And now my truck doesnt smell like clams. I live in new jersey and fish from island beach north up to sandy hooook. ive taken all three of my biggest bass off the north jetty at IBSP. I went out to fish newport last summer and loved it, (exept for the bloody knuckles i got replacing all my korker spikes) I caught the surfcasting addiction, next step for me is to get a wetsuite and go swimmin. Adios

Norm here.37.Been fishing the Island all my life.Really didn't start taking up plugging and using surf specific gear until the turn of the century and it is now my life.I'm torn between surf fishing and Nascar racing but I make room for both and for my girl on occassion .My best bass is a 26lber.I've hooked into many larger but I seem to be cursed and just can't land that big one.Though when I was in the AF I did land a 34lb Amberjack from the Packery Channel jetty down in Corpus Christi TX!Gear wise I've more plugs than I could possibly use and a few rod/reel setups with my most used being my Batson 1088(9') with a Spheros 8000,it suits my style of fishing more than half the time hence it being my favorite.Though I do get a lot of use out of my 10' Quarrow with manual 704.

My name is Rob and I'm a new member here. I'm 23 yrs old and from Franklin, MA. this is my fourth serious season fishing the surf, but due to various reasons my season started about 3 weeks ago. So far its been the best plug fishing I've experienced for this time of year. I usually work the shore at the mouth of Narragansett Bay and anywhere in South County depending on the time of year and where the bait is. My current set-up is an allstar 1088 with a modified 704 and my best bass is a tad over 30lbs, got a couple of those under my belt. hopefully that will change in the next coupla months. Looking forward to a good fall run and I wish everyone tight lines... Last edited by bart; 09-09-2006 at 03:34 PM.
