More bombproof. The current model Van Staal is superior to the "pre-buyout" models.

I would go with a 200. The 150 is also an option since you are using braid.

If you could purchase 1 Van Staal that you could swap between the two rods & potentially a longer rod I would go with the 200.

That 1023 is a lightweight, if you're going VS it's a 150 for sure on that one.

The 1064 can go either way, 150 or 200.

The Shimano Spheros would be my first choice on the less expensive end, with a 4000 on the 1023 and a 8000 on the 1064.

For reels you really need to take a look at how water resistant you need them to be. The Van Staal of course leads the pack by far in the department with Penn Z series following behind but requiring more maintenance.

If splashing is the only real concern the field opens up greatly. Shimano Spheros and possibly the new Daiwa Saltiga Surf are additional options.

Spheros absolutely. But those Magnesium reels scare me,one good ding and let the problems begin. For the price of a Saltiga Surf you could get three Spheros'.That new Saltiga appears to be a Blast/Emblem Pro "hybrid".

I've seen what happens to those Magnesium Stradics after a good drop on the rocks and it ain't pretty.
