| It's not known for casting very well, but it is known for taking big fish. What are the best metal lips (Dannys, Cowboys, Atoms, etc.) you've found and why? How do you fish them? My favorite has always been the Beachmaster Danny. I find a lot of metal lips require too fast a retrieve to start up that seductive wobble, but Beachmaster Dannys just seem to wobble sooner then all others and that's important to me. Some Gibbs Dannys swim nicely too after some tweaking of the lip and or eye, but the hooks need to be changed immediately. Last edited by cchobot; 08-15-2006 at 11:46 PM. |

| for me, a lot depends upon several conditions such as, where i am fishing, the forage bait around, winds, and surf/wave heights. through the years i have not gone wrong throwing a plastic atom40. this lure has caught more quality stripers for me than all the other metal lips i have thrown. the newer atom40s are junk. a close second would have to be a beachmaster danny. however, in the last 1+ years the tattoo diving swimmer has become my go-to lure in the surf. this is especially true when the surf is churned up, larger swells, and larger bait is around. this lure digs hard and when the surf is large, you can end that eye down and then you almos have to pull the lure out of that surf! with beachmaster dannys so hard to come around, i have had to try and find an alternative to this type of lure and it is now tattoo's larger swimmer. tattoo's tackle choices of metal lips is by far the best in the saltwater scene, especially for surf casters. they are widely available and the quality is top of the line. you will not be disappointed.

| My favorite metal lip was the "unweighed" Atom Junior. They were made by Bob Pond as a special order for Murats Tackle in Woonsocket. He left out the lead weights from the Juniors so they would wobble in a more seductive manner. The package was marked "Unweighed". Blue and white pattern. Worked great along Newport and Jamestown. I think I have two left that are held together with epoxy. Dennis Z. |

Metal Lips, There are so many to choose from. Depends on what I wanna do wit em.I wanna reach out an touch someone I have a Musso deep danny style I made goes 3+ oz at 7 inches.just add white water.Flat water i have a array of lefty's an wades that just Kill. For yr's the old gibbs danny was my standard.I also loved the 40's for the bigger profile.Have gotten some decent fish on a Hab A Tat forty that swimms pissa.Thats funny u say that about the BM danny's. I always like em better when there was some pull to get em going. His jr's with some tunning an bigger front hook is good in current. Not too much action.Skin goes over em nice also. Mostly cause of the gear I use I tend to use bigger MLips. There are times some may get more but I always get some an sometimes better ones.Got lots of big fish on other lures but it is tough to beat the First Light cat an mouse game with the fish on topwater Metal Lips.Or the anticipation of strike as ur lure comes in perfect along the edge of a rock where it's deeper from water washing around it an u know a bass sits on the lee side.I can call all the hits.Sometimes they don't even have to swim they just have to be there.Just hold on. |
