Default Plastic Eel Imitations...

Slug-gos, The Real Eel, Surf Hog Eels, Ron Z, Hogy, Felmlee, etc. With so many plastic eel imitations out there we want to know what are your favorites and why?

Default eels

Hi chris,
I'd opt to use the surf hogs for two reasons. They have imbedded eyes which stripers love to hit and they are impregnating with stinky fish oils. So I like to think they are the no brainer pick. Rig them onto a Pt. Jude wobblehead with that as the only hook required as they are going to hit up top by the eyes anyway and by not using that back hook you won't be snagging any rocks.
GOOD LUCK

I'm into the Pt. Jude Wobble Heads in a big way. No matter what you put behind them, it takes on a snake like quality.

Currently the 14" Real Eel on the 1.5 ounce wobble head is my weapon of choice when it comes to soft plastics. Some of the other soft plastics don't have enough material around where the hook comes through and they are prone to tearing just from the casting. The Real Eels hold up even after a few fish. I don't rig a 2nd hook off them, I mostly find that the fish mean business when they hit it and if they are of any quality they inhale the whole thing and get hooked.

It's hard tough to beat 14 inches worth of eel imitating plastic.

I like the Surf Hog Eel too, but I'm a believer in "big bait, big fish"...

I rigged Jersey style a few of the Real Eels 14 inchers on that squid I gave mike.Thats what that squid is good for as it is a deep or big water squid.
Eben Has a big eel in his molds He only makes a few I have a bunch they are sweet no middle bump out.U have to bother him for a few for urself.

The very 1st thing I did when Joe started offering the Wobbleheads was to put rubba on it.When Eben started making the Surfhogs the two coming together was inevitable. The two are like bread and butter. No other rubba works as well with the Wobblehead as the Surfhog.

I've had decent luck through the season on slug-gos, surf hogs and real eels. The other night I cycled through most everything in my bag and all they would hit was the 1 1/2 oz black wobblehead with large black curlytail.

Two years ago Dave Pickering did an article in OTW using 1-2 oz kalin/bullet style jig heads with the berkley power or gulp eel at a location known to produce big fish in Sept and Oct (especially when we get those nasty NE blows). I've got a bunch of similar jig heads from H & H Tackle that will be perfect for there. I figure about two weeks and that place will be giving up a couple of large.

Also finally got my prize pack from OTW (Thanks OTW!) with the RonZ soft baits (more like sand eels or maybe a small needlefish in my opinion) so I'll be giving these a go soon also.

Watch the hooks on them H+H heads.Ur better off with Kalin bullets to 1 1/8 then for 1.5 the owner bullet.I have been usin the hook from the owner 1.5 bullets in the stuff i make myself.

Tony the hooks on the H & H seem to be the strongest, most HD of any I've seen though not as sharp as the owner which I can take care of. I also use their 1/4-1 oz ballheads and teardrops in spring for schoolies. I know guys like Joe Lyons and Steve McKenna agree and use em' too.

When you heading up, Thursday?

I just joined this forum, and am very impressed with the information. I have been looking for some lessons on what guys use on the wobble heads. I think I'm going to be using these alot this year at night, both from the beach and from my kayak.

Thanks
