I fish Florida's beaches for snook and other species tossing plugs and plastics. I use 10lb Braided Line. Here is how I see it: VS: pro: light weight, 11.2 oz; simple design con: unskirted spool VSB: pro: skirted spool con: 16 oz weight, more moving parts. If the weight was the same for both reels I would go for the VSB that is skirted. I have not fished with an unskirted reel in many years. I found the tangles below the unskirted reel to be a nuisance. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by patriciorg; 10-29-2007 at 09:04 AM.

Thank you for the replies. Since you have not addressed the line going underneath the spool, is it a rare occurance? How is it avoided or minimized? BTW, I was on Cape Cod in mid September and caught a Cape Cod Slam according to my host. A bluefish, little tunny and a Striper. I will use the VS for that as well.

I made my previous post on Friday. I sold my VSB this weekend to get a VS...the weight diff. was more than enough to convince me to do so. You are already accustomed to the bailess model you kind of just don't know it...in about 5 minutes the tech. was down...caught 6 Whiting & a 17" Red yesterday with the VS100. I had it paired with a Loomis SUR965S. I am prob. gonna get the 150 for that G.L. and use the 100 on my 6's and 7 footers. If you are fishing strictly surf go with the 150. But if you are going to use it for mult. applications I would get the 100. The 100 can handle anything you can throw @ it. I've got a Stella 5000FA as well...but its about to go bye bye...its a beauty & I take great care of my stuff....but its no Van Staal. You feel like you have to baby the thing for it to work right and u kinda do. Example the VS100 = 11.2 oz VSB100 = 16 oz. approx - a little bit bigger/comparable to a 5000 Series real. Best of luck to ya! Last edited by MD51; 02-11-2008 at 07:07 AM.
