Default speros anti-reverse problem

It first started with my 5000FA and now I'm starting to see it occur with my 8000's. It is an inconsistant problem that gets worse over time. What happens in the beginning is that the atireverse will occationally not engage but, after you start reeling forward a few times it will start to work again. It started happening every once in a while and then, as with most things, the problem worsened over time. I took the reel apart several times including the anti-reverse assembly, cleaned, regreased and reassembled. It didn't seem to help the issue. Has anyone else encounterd this problem with these otherwise reliable reels? Found any fixes outside of replacing the anti reverse assembly? It seems to me that after a signifigant amount of use the tolerances between the roller bearings and palstic jam ring may open up and loosen to the point where the bearings no longer bind consistantly. I hope I'm wrong though.

There's no bigger fan of this reel than me.I own several 8000s including a 1st year reel.Other than a roller bearing issue on the original last year,no issues.

Spheros is the best bargain in a reel.Lets hope that holds true for the FBs.

I was looking at mine today and the easiest thing to do would probably be replace it.But parts are $$$.

Thanks. This stuff is expensive relative to the cost of the reel that is why I was looking to avoid it. I'm not cheap it's just the principle of the whole thing. Just like you could buy a single 8000 reel and use spools from the 5000 and 6000 as well since they are the same reel but the spare spool is $40 for a <$100 reel! It's almost as bad as spare fly reel spools (relatively speaking). A way for the manufacturers keep you buying reels instead of multiple spools I guess.

This is why I'm giving the Stradic FI the go this year. The waterproof drag and the spare spool are huge.

That's true because I'm sure the stradic shares the same antireverse mechanism as the spheros but, I think he was refering to the included spare spool as being a plus.

I was.

Don't get me wrong my 1st Spheros has lasted as long as it did because its a fantastic reel and I'll be looking at the FB real hard.

But the waterproof drag and the spare spool along with the "S-R Concept" on the new the Stradic FI are very inviting.I WILL fish it hard.
